Scope of Work: (Project Description)
1) Identify project goals and objectives. Be as specific as possible.
The purpose of this contract is to further the mission goals of the Forest Service.
The overall work will complete trail maintenance activities on the Superior Trail System of the Wayne National Forest. The intent is to protect the water quality, improve the trail for the users, increase safety and protect the Governments current investment.
2) Identify the specific objective (s) and connect them to program’s strategic plan.
The project will eventually connect the Superior Trail System and the Hanging Rock Trail System and also provide safe passage over Sperry Fork Creek in two locations. This will provide a legal access trail to users which will result in the reduction of stream impacts from unauthorized OHV use. Drainage will be rerouted into engineered channels, cross drains and sediment basins and the surface will be graded and improved. By grading the surface and adding limestone aggregate, the trail prism will more efficiently shed water without eroding the base soils. This will improve the greater Sperry Fork Creek watershed and enhance terrestrial habitat adjacent to the trail.
3) Describe the major tasks that must be accomplished to meet project goals and objectives.
Major tasks will be: re-decking of the Sperry Fork UTV Bridge, re-decking of Superior Trail Bridge and creating a staging area for equipment and supplies for this project. Also involved in this task, will be removal of the existing bridge decks and the creation of a traffic control plan for SR 650 during construction.
4) Identify current condition of project site and desired condition once project is completed.
Current project sites are in need of bridge deck maintenance. Desired conditions at the completion of this project is to have the Sperry Fork OHV bridge deck replaced, Superior Trail Bridge maintained and staging area established.
Personnel to administer this task order are: Nick Mossbarger of The Wayne National Forest, The time frame for this project will be the Summer/Fall of 2019.
The long term benefits will be better water quality and a safer, more enjoyable trail for our trail riders.
