About this file
This is a Statement of Work (SOW) along with a related Federal Contract Opportunity for a spectrophotometer to be used for high throughput experiments to monitor and quantify growth of bacterial fish pathogens under various conditions.
The key requirements include: four-microplate capacity, temperature control up to 45°C, proven robust orbital shaking, ability to read at wavelengths commonly used for microbial growth assays (600 nm, 560 nm, 580 nm, 620 nm or 640 nm), and easy-to-use software to collect and analyze microbial growth data. The only instrument that meets these requirements is the Agilent BioTek LogPhase 600 Microbiology Reader.
The related Federal Contract Opportunity is a Request for Quotation (RFQ) issued by the USDA, Agricultural Research Service for the Agilent BioTek LogPhase 600 Microbiology Reader. Quotes must be submitted by June 28, 2024 and will be evaluated on technical acceptance, price, and past performance to determine the best value. The solicitation is open to all responsible sources.

Statement of Work (SOW)/Specifications Project: Spectrophotometer for monitoring bacterial growth
GENERAL INFORMATION
1.0 Scope of Work:
We seek to obtain a spectrophotometer for high throughput microbial growth analyses. The instrument will be used for high throughput experiments to monitor and quantify growth of bacterial fish pathogens under a multitude of growth conditions, such as temperature, pH, and different nutrients.
2.0 Background:
The USDA, ARS, SEA, Aquatic Animal Health Research Unit (AAHRU), Auburn, AL location conducts research on bacterial pathogens of important aquaculture fish species such as catfish and tilapia. There is a need to understand the growth kinetics of these pathogens under a multitude of biological conditions, and to also understand differences in growth between different serotypes of the same pathogen. To effectively and validly test these conditions, there is a need for a spectrophotometer that can incubate up to 4 plates at a time to ensure that biological conditions are tested simultaneously so that valid data can be obtained for analysis.
CONTRACTOR REQUIREMENTS
3.0 Technical Requirements/Tasks:
Must have four-microplate capacity to maximize microbial growth assay throughput
Must have temperature control to 45°C
Incubation must have variation of ± 0.5°C at 37°C
· Temperature control must have plate-to-plate uniformity of ± 0.5°C
· Must have proven robust orbital shaking specifically designed for continuous long-term shaking required for microbial growth assays
Must read with a wavelength commonly used for microbial growth assays: 600 nm, 560 nm, 580 nm, 620 nm or 640 nm
Must include an easy-to-use software to collect and provide key microbial growth data and calculated results, including lag time, maximum rate (OD/min) and time to stationary phase
Must be designed and manufactured in the USA The Agilent BioTek LogPhase 600 microbiology reader is the only microplate absorbance reader available that meets the requirements listed above.
