Site Review #1: Lower Deadfalls Trail Discussions

· Each work item was marked onsite and were visited and discussed with contractors.

· Trail realignments were walked (not currently flagged). Realignment locations can vary as long as objectives are met. Flagging will be installed prior to start of work.

· Boardwalk and trail across meadow will follow a straighter alignment and will be flagged before construction.

· Boardwalk will be placed in sections. The longest boardwalk section could extend 100’.

· No low sling in boardwalks. Boardwalks must maintain grade and stay level.

· Rock fords may extend past stream course into riparian area but will not exceed unit of measure as listed in the Schedule of Items.

· Contractors felt general trail maintenance, water drainage, and waterbar items were clearly understood.

· Accommodations for camping will be allowed and fire restriction variances will be discussed and considered by local unit staff.

Major issues and questions that need to be resolved:

· What type of subbase needs to be used under boardwalk posts? Specs call out concrete or aggregate. Please specify exactly (see Amendment 1).

· Response: Aggregate base material is preferred in the wet meadow to allow for better drainage.

· What type of decking should be used exactly? Specs show either 2X6 or 3X8 decking boards can be used. Need to know this to generate an accurate quote.

· Response: 3X8 decking boards are preferred as larger dimensional boards are stronger and will withstand snow impacts better (see Amendment 1).

· Does a boardwalk or bridge need to be placed across Deadfall Creek as it exits the meadow?

· Response: Do not extend boardwalk or bridge across the creek (due to flooding risk). Create stepping stone ford crossing. (See Amendment 1 for revised map). No change to rock ford Schedule of Items estimated quantity .

· Climbing turns: alignment will be flagged prior to construction.
