RE: Colville National Forest
Republic Ranger Station
Water and Wastewater System Improvements
Peter, this memo addresses the comments received on 10/18/16 regarding the “Technical Specifications and Construction Drawings” for the “Colville National Forest Republic Ranger Station Water and
Wastewater Improvements” project. The comments are numbered and correspond to the attached.
Pertinent comments have been included in the attached “Addendum No.1”. Please include this addendum with the “Technical Specifications and Construction Drawings”.
Comments addressed as follows:
1) Base course and top course depth is defined on Sheet 02 under “Surface Restoration Notes”, notes
2 and 3.
2) The invert elevations for MH B3 are shown correctly on Sheet 03, Profile P7. This is corrected by the attached “Addendum No.1”.
3) MH A5 rim elevation 2661.1 +/- is incorrect. Correct rim elevation is 2666.1 +/-. This is corrected by the attached “Addendum No.1”.
4) Section 02563 2.06 specifies manhole frame and covers shall be per Fed. Spec. RR-F-621D
(25,000 lbs on a 9” x 9” load contact area) which is in conformance with H-20/HS-20 (16,000 lbs on a 8” x 20” tire contact area)
5) Grout is specified in Section 02563 2.08.

6) Coordination with the City will be required for this connection. Per “GENERAL NOTES, Note
1” on Sheet 02 “….It will be the contractors responsibility to coordinate with all utility owners…”. At the time the plans/specifications were completed Casey Giddings, the Public
Works Director, stated a permit for this connection was not necessary.
The attached “Addendum No.1” adds language to clarify communication and coordination with the City of Republic and notification requirements regarding this connection and the City of
Republic.
7) The attached “Addendum No.1” adds language regarding the correction of this contour elevation.
8) Pumping prior to excavation/removal is fine, though per the information supplied to me regarding the cesspool it has likely been abandoned long enough that there is nothing to pump. The excavation/installation of the pipe will likely require the complete removal of the cesspool. The note makes removal and disposal of the cesspool structure the contractor’s responsibility.
The attached “Addendum No.1” clarifies the contractor’s responsibility to “pump, remove and dispose of the cesspool per all local, state and federal requirements”.
9) The attached “Addendum No.1” removes 16” square from note N7 on Detail 6/04 and 18” square from note N6 on Detail 8/04 and added “as shown” on the end of the respective notes.
10) The yard hydrant is connected to a water line which will be abandoned as part of the project so capping the pipe and providing freeze protection is not necessary.
