Bridge #23952 Railing Retrofit Plans Summary

This document comprises signed engineering plans for a bridge railing retrofit project in Washington County, Oregon, prepared by a registered professional engineer effective June 1, 2026 through November 30, 2026. The project involves retrofitting the bridge rail system on Gaston Road (Bridge #23952) located in Washington County, spanning approximately 0.18 miles with work stations from Station G 5+20.00 to Station G 14+85.00. The retrofit work includes installation of approximately 170 linear feet of new rectangular tube retrofit components to replace the existing 32-inch vertical concrete parapet bridge rail while maintaining traffic control and pedestrian access throughout construction. The project encompasses both bridge approaches, incorporating rectangular tube retrofits per ODOT Standard Drawings BR285 and BR286, new structural steel fasteners, powder-coated black rail components, and associated mounting plate assemblies and anchor systems.

The engineering plans specify all materials and construction work must conform to Oregon Standard Specifications for Construction 2024, with structural steel and fasteners adhering to ODOT standards. The retrofit rail is evaluated to meet MASH TL-4 requirements and can be used for speeds of 45 mph and greater with appropriate guardrail transitions. Anchor installation requires adhesive anchors with minimum 30-kip pullout force using epoxy adhesive per Oregon Standard Specification 00535, with all exposed steel components hot-dip galvanized and powder-coated SAE AMS-STD-595 color #27038 black. The design complies with ORS 92.044 (7) regarding utility infrastructure placement near survey monuments, and the project basis of bearings and elevations is established using Oregon Coordinate Reference System Portland zone with Washington County Datum referenced to NGVD 29.

BASIS OF BEARINGS AND ELEVATIONS:

The bearing for theses plans are based on Oregon Coordinate Reference System (OCRS), Portland zone.

Elevations shown are Washington County Datum based on NGVD 29 Datum by holding Washington County Bench Mark No. 135, a brass disk in concrete at the southeast corner of the intersection of Springhill Road and Gaston Road.

This design complies with ORS 92.044 (7) in that no utility infrastructure is designed to be within (1) foot of a survey monument location shown on a subdivision or partition plat. No design exceptions nor final field location changes shall be permitted if that change would cause any utility infrastructure to be placed within the prohibited area.
