About this file

This document is a Level 3 Asphalt Concrete Technician Training proposal from Flexible Pavements of Ohio (FPO) for the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT). The training will be conducted at Ohio University's Lancaster Campus, with key personnel including Larry Shively (Primary Instructor), John Neenan (Instructor), and James A. Marszal, P.E. from Flexible Pavements of Ohio. The instructors have extensive backgrounds in transportation, materials engineering, and asphalt technology, with significant experience working with ODOT and other state transportation agencies.

The training is a comprehensive five-day course focused on asphalt mix design, covering topics such as material specifications, volumetric characteristics, aggregate and binder testing, RAP (Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement) blending, Marshall and Superpave design procedures, and emerging concepts like Balanced Mix Design. Participants must be ODOT-approved Level 2 Asphalt Concrete Quality Control Technicians. The course includes classroom instruction, material distribution (including MS-2 manual and ODOT specifications), and a final written examination provided by ODOT. Participants will receive training materials, learn detailed mix design methodologies, and have the opportunity to develop practical skills in asphalt technology and quality control.
