Forest Service Minimum Vehicle Requirements:
4x4 UTV Required Specifications: All-Purpose Side-by-Side for Personnel and Cargo Transport
Approved Utility Terrain Vehicles (UTVs) for Forest Service Off-Highway Use: A motorized vehicle designed for off-highway use capable of maneuvering over uneven terrain, having four low pressure tires, designed with side-by-side seats, seatbelt(s), steering wheel, and equipped with certified rollover protection structure (ROPS). Approved UTVs must be directionally controlled with a steering wheel. Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) type steered and braked utilizing levers are not approved for Forest Service use.
The below minimum vehicle requirements (MVRs) were derived from the national Wildland Fire Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) Standard, (dated January 2022) and were developed by the US Forest Service National Technology & Development Program for safe UTV operation during a wildfire or prescribed fire activities. Alteration of any item in Column B is prohibited.
