BRAND NAME OR EQUAL

Introduction The micro-manipulator system allows the movement and positioning of a very fine glass pipette using precision pneumatic drives in an x, y, and z plane while observing a specimen for extraction under a compound microscope.

Background

The Southeast Region Office, based in Orlando, FL office of the Caribbean-Florida Water Science Center (CFWSC), is needed 3 axis-micromanipulator, Narishige International USA (MMO-4), or equivalent for collecting individual cells while being viewed under a compound microscope. This system will allow the separation of organisms in a water sample that can them be isolated and grown as a culture. Samples typically have several species, making them difficult to grow in isolation. This micromanipulator is necessary for determining which species of cyanobacteria are making toxin and make cultures for genetic library development.

Scope This instrument will be used to enhance all cell culture and cytotoxicity projects carried out by providing a mechanism to isolated individual orgnaims.
