UNSPSC 31132801: Cold forged machined magnesium forging

Forging made of magnesium that is forged at a cold temperature and has been machined

UNSPSC 31132801 Cold forged machined magnesium forging, a Commodity code, describes custom-machined magnesium components produced through cold-forging processes and sold to state and local government buyers. The code covers finished or near-finished magnesium forgings that have undergone secondary machining operations to meet specification — parts commonly used in aerospace, defense, medical device, and industrial applications where weight reduction and corrosion resistance are material requirements. State and local procurement records show no recent solicitations under this code.

Without current opportunities to evaluate, the geographic spread and issuing-body mix remain unclear. Businesses pursuing this code should monitor state procurement portals and cooperative purchasing vehicles in aerospace-heavy regions and states with large defense contractor ecosystems, as magnesium forging demand typically concentrates near prime contractors and their supply chains. The lack of visible activity may reflect that most magnesium forging procurement flows through federal channels or prime-contractor supply agreements rather than direct state and local purchase — a pattern common in specialized manufacturing codes serving niche technical markets.
