About this IDV

The University of Maine System (UMS), through its University of Maine Division, was awarded a single-award Indefinite Delivery Contract (IDC) by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), a civilian agency, to conduct research and development on wood-polymer composites for use in highway bridges and port facilities.

The $1.682 million IDC, with a period of performance from November 2007 to September 2011, included five task orders that covered structural design criteria and code development, durability studies, demonstration projects, extrusion processing and reinforcement research, and the development of a design guide for FRP-glulam bridge girders. The work was performed at the University of Maine campus in Orono, Maine. As the state's land-grant and sea-grant institution, UMS has extensive experience in delivering services across a range of research areas to federal agencies, including NASA, the Department of Defense, and NOAA, through both contracts and grants.
