About this IDV
The United States Department of Agriculture Forest Service Rocky Mountain Region awarded an indefinite delivery contract to Summitt Forests, Inc. for pre-commercial thinning and slash treatment services across three national forests. With a potential value of $1.5M over five years from 2017 to 2022, the multiple-award contract established Summitt Forests and four other small businesses as approved contractors for future task orders related to stand improvement activities including tree thinning, slash treatment, and fuels reduction.
Subsequent task orders issued to Summitt Forests involved mechanical thinning, hand piling, and slash treatment projects across Colorado and Wyoming locations totaling over $2.6M. Specific task orders included thinning and fuels reduction projects in Fort Collins, Douglas, Glenwood Springs, and other areas within Arapaho/Roosevelt, Medicine Bow/Routt, and White River National Forests. Services supported objectives for reducing wildfire risk, improving forest health and habitat conditions, and implementing sustainable land management practices.
The indefinite delivery contract and task order awards demonstrate the Forest Service's utilization of Summitt Forests' expertise and capacity for delivering pre-commercial thinning and vegetation management services in support of the agency's stewardship goals across its Rocky Mountain region.
Description
TRI forest pre commercial thinning IDIQ this award is for stand improvement activities and slash treatment on the arapaho/roosevelt, medicine BOW/routt & white river national forests. Fully funded tasked orders will be issued against this contract. Stand improvement activities, such as tree thinning, are needed to reduce the tree density and, by the deliberate selection of leave trees, improve the overall health and condition of the stand based on the prescribed objectives. Tree selection and cutting of undesirable or excess trees will provide space for the leave trees to grow and develop, and reduce the incidence of insect and diseases that affect growth and undesirable tree qualities. Thinning may also target removal of ladder fuels which will reduce the risk of crown fires. Existing and created slash may be treated to reduce fire risk and modify fire behavior. The contractor shall furnish all labor, equipment, supervision, transportation, supplies (except those designated as government furnished), and incidentals to safely perform all work necessary on the areas specified. All aspects of the work program shall be performed in an organized, systematic manner to assure services will be performed over the entire unit.
