About this award

The National Endowment for the Humanities awarded a $300,300 Project Grant to the Strong National Museum of Play under the Promotion of the Humanities Division of Preservation and Access program (CFDA 45.149). The grant will support the reinstatement of two positions at the museum that were eliminated during the pandemic - Conservator and Curator of Electronic Games. It will also create two new positions - an Artifact Photographer and a Research Specialist in Black Play and Culture. The Artifact Photographer will eliminate a backlog of 2,000 object photographs. The new Conservator will enable preservation of the museum's collection of over 515,000 play-related items. The Research Specialist will review collections and exhibits to identify opportunities to acquire new artifacts and create diverse programming related to Black play experiences. No subawards are associated with this award. The funding period is from November 1, 2021 to October 31, 2023.
