Description
- Activities
- Five new humanities research, education, and archival projects will be created at mtsu. These will document the stories and experiences of african american community elders in tennessee during the civil rights movement of the 1960S; examine the means of communication used by political campaigns; digitize and catalogue the goldstein collection of american songsters (approximately 30,000 pages of materials); review digital newspaper databases and microfilm resources to collect and document rural women?s suffrage work in tennessee; and developing year-long, campus-wide programming and engagement with global literatures, emphasizing citizenship. this project will make materials available through websites and repositories in the area, and hire four full-time positions, three graduate assistants, and student workers for hourly labor.
- Expected outcomes
- This project will create and support seven positions and pay an unspecified number of students for hourly labor for contributing to the ?tennessee rural women?s suffrage newspaper project.? This will also fund the beginning of these five large digital humanities projects, which will add a large amount of oral histories and documents to both centers on mtsu?s campus and the surrounding community.
- Intended beneficiaries
- This will benefit the faculty, staff, and students of mtsu. Digitizing and making available these materials within and without academic websites and catalogues makes these resources accessible to scholars, public historians, and the community. They are also, then, available to a global community. subrecipient beneficiaries: this project does not intend to issue subawards.]
