This major research instrument will enable simultaneous measurement of brain activity and eye movements during reading and visual tasks with millisecond precision. The co-registration system will advance the understanding of cognitive...
- This National Science Foundation (NSF) Major Research Instrumentation award of $413,282 provides Northern Michigan University (NMU) with a high-density electroencephalogram (HD-EEG) system integrated with high-density transcranial electric stimulation (HD-TES) neuromodulation capabilities and time-locked dual acquisition functionality. This advanced neuroimaging instrumentation will support collaborative research projects across neuroscience, psychology, and behavioral science fields. The...
- The National Institute on Aging awarded $775,637 to Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai on September 1, 2026, under the Aging Research program (CFDA 93.866) to develop and evaluate the Soft Electronic Neurophysiological Assessment Patch Sensor (SENAPS), a compact, reusable, dry-electrode forehead EEG/EOG system for unsupervised multi-night sleep assessment in older adults. The project will develop an integrated SENAPS system consisting of a reusable forehead patch and cellular charging...
- The National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering awarded The Regents of the University of California, doing business as University of California, Berkeley, $610,840 on July 1, 2026, under the Discovery and Applied Research for Technological Innovations to Improve Human Health program (CFDA 93.286) to develop a platform enabling whole-brain functional MRI during full-night natural sleep synchronized with polysomnographic recordings. The recipient will develop wearable...
- The National Institutes of Health National Heart Lung and Blood Institute awarded Massachusetts General Hospital $266,541 under Project Grant R21HL184268 on May 1, 2026, to use sleep EEG signals for tracking longitudinal changes in brain state and waking cognitive function through analysis of existing controlled-protocol data. The work analyzes electroencephalographic recordings collected under standardized inpatient conditions across multiple protocols involving extended, control (8-hour), or...
- The National Science Foundation (NSF) awarded a $125,000 Project Grant under its Biological Sciences program (CFDA 47.074) to The General Hospital Corporation, doing business as Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), for a collaborative research project titled "EAGER: Deep Learning-Based Multimodal Analysis of Sleep." The two-year project aims to develop a multimodal machine learning approach to simultaneously monitor and process electroencephalogram (EEG) data and animal behavior...
- The National Science Foundation Office of Multidisciplinary Activities awarded the University of California, San Diego $799,991 on September 1, 2026, to build a unified, U.S.-based infrastructure for human electroencephalography (EEG) data. The project runs through August 31, 2031, and is supported under the Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences program (CFDA 47.075). The project consolidates fragmented international EEG datasets collected across cognitive science experiments into a...
- This two-year, $200,000 project grant from the National Science Foundation's Computer and Information Science and Engineering program (CFDA 47.070) will support the development of interpretable deep learning methods and software for automated sleep phenotyping using multimodal health sensing data. Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center will leverage polyssomnography data and novel radio frequency sensing techniques to build accurate deep learning models for classifying sleep stages and apnea...
- Eastern Michigan University was awarded a three-year, $149,919 Project Grant from the National Science Foundation Office of Integrative Activities under the Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences federal grant program (CFDA 47.075). The grant will fund the acquisition of an electroencephalography (EEG) machine to examine relationships between brain activity and behavior across the lifespan. As the sole sub-awardee, Eastern Michigan University's Office of Research Development will utilize...
GRAEL 4K HIGH-DEFINITION PSG:EEG - PROJECT SUMMARY THIS APPLICATION SEEKS FUNDING TO PURCHASE AN INSTRUMENT TO COLLECT POLYSOMNOGRAPHY (PSG) AND ELECTROENCEPHALOGRAPHY (EEG) DATA USING STATE-OF-THE-ART TECHNOLOGY. THE COMPUMEDICS GRAEL 4K PSG/EEG MACHINE ALLOWS RESEARCHERS TO COLLECT HIGH-DEFINITION PSG AND EEG DATA. THE LONG-TERM GOAL OF THE APPLICATION IS TO SUPPORT AND PRODUCE MORE RIGOROUS BASIC, TRANSLATIONAL, AND CLINICAL RESEARCH PROJECTS IN SLEEP, BRAIN ACTIVITIES, AND BEHAVIORS. THE IMPACT OF THIS INSTRUMENT ON IDAHO STATE UNIVERSITY IS SIGNIFICANT. COLLECTING PSG AND EEG DATA USING ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY WILL IMPROVE THE RIGOR AND REPRODUCIBILITY OF RESEARCH STUDIES, INCREASE THE COMPETITIVENESS OF GRANT APPLICATIONS, STIMULATE NEW RESEARCH AMONG CURRENT FACULTY, AND ATTRACT NEW FACULTY HIRES WHO CONDUCT SLEEP AND EEG RESEARCH. THE INSTRUMENT WILL ALSO IMPROVE THE TRAINING OF NEXT- GENERATION BIOMEDICAL RESEARCHERS. STUDENTS WILL HAVE ACCESS TO THE INSTRUMENT VIA FACULTY-SUPERVISED RESEARCH PROJECTS AND COURSES THAT PROVIDE HANDS-ON RESEARCH EXPERIENCE. OVERALL, THE INSTRUMENT WILL SUBSTANTIALLY ENHANCE THE BIOMEDICAL RESEARCH PROFILE OF THE INSTITUTION.
