- The National Institute on Aging, part of the Department of Health and Human Services, awarded Weill Medical College of Cornell University $720,523 on June 15, 2026, under the Aging Research program (CFDA 93.866) to evaluate the impact of integrated dual-eligible special needs plans (D-SNPs) on utilization, quality, mortality, and chronic disease management among low-income individuals dually eligible for Medicare and Medicaid who qualify for Medicare based on disability. The study addresses a...
- The National Institute on Aging awarded $676,587 to Weill Medical College of Cornell University on February 15, 2026, under the Aging Research program (CFDA 93.866) to conduct a mixed-methods study examining the effectiveness of civil monetary penalties (CMPs) in enhancing nursing home quality of care. The research analyzes whether CMPs serve as effective deterrents against substandard care or inadvertently worsen care deficiencies by imposing financial strain on facilities. Aim 1 explores the...
- The National Institute on Aging awarded Weill Medical College of Cornell University $216,203 on June 15, 2026, under the Aging Research program (CFDA 93.866) to establish a research and mentoring program for surgical care of older adults. The recipient will leverage existing infrastructure and resources at Weill Cornell Medicine–New York Presbyterian to support and train surgeon scientists focused on older adult surgical patients, with particular emphasis on those from difficult social...
- The National Institute on Aging awarded Education Development Center, Inc. $320,150 under the Aging Research program (CFDA 93.866) on September 1, 2026. The research project examines elder mistreatment and self-neglect among older adults with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias, leveraging the UCLA Alzheimer's and Dementia Care (ADC) Program's longitudinal dataset of structured data and clinical notes from dementia care specialists. The study expands the existing dataset to include three...
- The National Institute on Aging awarded Weill Medical College of Cornell University $129,096 on March 1, 2026, under the Aging Research program (CFDA 93.866) to support investigator-initiated research and training in aging science. The award funds a research career development initiative examining how major pharmacy chains and retailers are investing in primary care clinics and the implications for access to and quality of care in older adults (age 65+). The research addresses the recent wave of...
- The National Institute on Aging, part of the Department of Health and Human Services National Institutes of Health, awarded Weill Medical College of Cornell University $172,260 on July 1, 2026, under the Aging Research program (CFDA 93.866) to characterize the relationship between electroencephalographic burst-suppression and postoperative delirium in the context of corticothalamic function. The recipient will investigate biomarkers for postoperative delirium, a neurocognitive disturbance...
- The National Institute on Aging awarded Weill Medical College of Cornell University $293,899 for a Project Grant (R21AG098802) on September 4, 2026, under the Aging Research program (CFDA 93.866). The award funds an exploratory research project examining the long-term impacts of hurricanes on primary care provider availability and utilization among Medicare beneficiaries. The research uses difference-in-differences and survival analysis methods applied to over a decade of Medicare claims data...
- The National Institute on Aging awarded The Leland Stanford Junior University $1.24 million on September 30, 2025, under the Aging Research program (CFDA 93.866) to construct and analyze a novel individual-level database linking health trajectories of older adults to the physical, mental, and economic well-being of their family members across multiple generations, covering 1999 to 2024. The project leverages Census Bureau infrastructure for linking U.S. survey and administrative data to...
- The National Institute on Aging at the National Institutes of Health awarded Weill Medical College of Cornell University $4,048,745 on September 1, 2026, under the Aging Research program (CFDA 93.866) to examine the long-term health effects of extreme weather events on post-acute care patients with Alzheimer's dementia and related dementias in skilled nursing facilities. The recipient will conduct quantitative and qualitative research across three aims. Aim 1 examines the impact of extreme...
- The National Institute on Aging awarded Weill Medical College of Cornell University $362,342 on March 17, 2026, under the Aging Research program (CFDA 93.866) to conduct research on lysosome homeostasis in aging-related diseases. The research investigates how lysosomes maintain cellular health through homeostatic mechanisms that sense lysosomal stress and either repair damaged lysosomes or generate new ones via transcriptional activation. The study focuses on a mechanism called conjugation of...
The National Institute on Aging awarded Weill Medical College of Cornell University $698,599 on September 1, 2026, under the Aging Research program (CFDA 93.866) to build ACLINK, a privacy-preserving linked dataset connecting Adult Protective Services records with Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services claims data for research on healthcare utilization among older adults experiencing elder mistreatment and self-neglect. The project creates research infrastructure by linking APS investigative records—which cover approximately 270,000 identified cases of elder mistreatment and self-neglect annually across U.S. state APS agencies—with CMS claims and administrative data. This linkage will enable researchers to analyze healthcare utilization patterns before and after APS involvement and support rigorous intervention testing. The dataset will be accessible to qualified researchers under appropriate governance structures. Weill Medical College is drawing on prior exploratory work successfully demonstrating APS-to-CMS linkage feasibility. Texas has committed APS data contribution, and the project will incorporate APS records from two additional states with recruitment support from the National APS Association and other stakeholders. Performance of work occurs in New York, New York, with a period of performance from September 1, 2026, through August 31, 2028.
