Under the direction of Dr. Michael Duyzend, a physician-scientist specializing in medical genetics and...
- The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development awarded the University of Massachusetts $478,453 on September 1, 2026, under the Child Health and Human Development Extramural Research program (CFDA 93.865) to characterize approximately 150 early lethal mouse phenotypes occurring between fertilization and organogenesis as part of large-scale analysis of International Mouse Phenotyping Consortium (IMPC) early lethal phenotypes. The recipient will phenotype knockout alleles to...
- The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development awarded The General Hospital Corporation (Massachusetts General Hospital) $443,954 on June 1, 2026, under the Child Health and Human Development Extramural Research program (CFDA 93.865) to conduct a four-year mixed-methods assessment of obstetric readiness in low-resource emergency departments. The research addresses the clinical gap created by closures of labor and delivery units that leave 2.3 million women of childbearing age in...
- The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development awarded The General Hospital Corporation (Massachusetts General Hospital) $538,173 on August 1, 2026, under the Child Health and Human Development Extramural Research program (CFDA 93.865, assistance type: Project Grant) to investigate the molecular mechanisms controlling developmental timing through NADH redox metabolism. The project uses a segmentation clock—a molecular oscillator whose period correlates with embryonic development...
- Federal Grant Award Summary Massachusetts General Hospital received a $2.416 million Project Grant from the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) under the Child Health and Human Development Extramural Research program (CFDA 93.865) on September 8, 2025, with a completion date of August 31, 2028. The award funds the development of an innovative, multi-modal screening tool for early detection of childbirth-related posttraumatic stress disorder (CB-PTSD) in women who...
- The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development awarded The General Hospital Corporation (Massachusetts General Hospital) $1,503,452 under the Child Health and Human Development Extramural Research program (CFDA 93.865) on February 9, 2026. The research project, titled "Mechanistic Intersection Between Placental Vascular and Newborn Neuronal Development," investigates adverse neurodevelopmental outcomes in HIV-exposed but uninfected children born to pregnant people with...
- The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development awarded Massachusetts General Hospital $681,793 on June 23, 2026, under the Child Health and Human Development Extramural Research program (CFDA 93.865) to map the neuroarchitecture and connectivity development of the human cerebellum during the first postnatal year using cross-scale imaging techniques. The research addresses the gap between in vivo and ex vivo imaging of perinatal cerebellar injury, which occurs in up to 19% of...
- The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development awarded Massachusetts General Hospital $466,740 on August 3, 2026, under the Child Health and Human Development Extramural Research program (CFDA 93.865) to investigate congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) using fetal tracheal aspirates as a molecular and cellular window into hypoplastic lung development. The project will examine when an inflammatory signature—characterized by increased cytokeratin 5 and activated NFKB expression with...
- Federal Project Grant Award Summary Massachusetts General Hospital received a $449,636 Project Grant award from the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) under the Child Health and Human Development Extramural Research program (CFDA 93.865), effective July 23, 2025 through June 30, 2027. The grant funds research into a novel small interfering RNA (siRNA)-based treatment approach designed to enhance Gs alpha-mediated hormone signaling in patients with...
- The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development awarded the University of Massachusetts $157,427 on May 25, 2026, under the Child Health and Human Development Extramural Research program (CFDA 93.865) to investigate the role of maternal MCM4 protein in zygotic DNA replication and the oocyte-to-embryo transition. The research uses live imaging, immunofluorescence, and RNA sequencing to examine how maternal MCM4 governs zygotic replication and mitotic fidelity in oocyte-specific...
The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development awarded Massachusetts General Hospital $499,918 on September 1, 2026, under the Child Health and Human Development Extramural Research program (CFDA 93.865) to investigate the genetic etiologies of stillbirth as an extreme manifestation within the developmental disorders continuum. The recipient will aggregate genomic and phenotypic data from an initial sequencing cohort of more than 1,000 stillbirth cases and their family members, analyzing short-read sequencing as a front-line discovery strategy. Through integrative analysis of all variant classes and inheritance patterns using Bayesian frameworks and exploration of noncoding regulatory elements, the work will delineate novel genetic associations in stillbirth. A second aim will leverage a dataset of approximately 200,000 cases with heterogeneous developmental disorders to compare the genetic architecture of stillbirth as an extreme phenotype along the human developmental continuum, benchmarking findings against population-scale sequencing from more than 1 million individuals processed in gnomAD, the All of Us Research Program, and related resources. The project capitalizes on foundational resources curated by the Fetal Genomics Consortium. The award is structured as bridge funding with a period of performance from September 1, 2026, through August 31, 2028. Work is performed in Boston, Massachusetts. This is a project grant, the assistance type for investigator-initiated research awards under NICHD's extramural portfolio.
