Project Grant R41CA302048
- The National Cancer Institute awarded the University of Kansas Medical Center Research Institute, Inc. $398,544 on April 8, 2026, under the Cancer Treatment Research program (CFDA 93.395) to conduct pre-clinical evaluation of a highly selective SMARCA2 degrader in therapy-resistant triple-negative breast cancer. The research addresses mechanisms of resistance to neoadjuvant systemic therapy in triple-negative breast cancer patients with residual disease. The project leverages the recipient's...
- The National Cancer Institute awarded $400,000 to Dauntless Biotherapeutics, Inc. on August 11, 2026, under the Cancer Treatment Research program (CFDA 93.395) to develop CD155-targeted antibody-drug conjugates for metastatic and triple-negative breast cancer. The project advances therapeutic candidates that combine direct tumor cytotoxicity with restoration of anti-tumor immunity. CD155 is expressed in over 60% of breast cancers, including triple-negative, HER2-positive, and HER2-low...
- The National Cancer Institute awarded the University of Tennessee Health Science Center $389,215 on August 25, 2026, under the Cancer Treatment Research program (CFDA 93.395) to develop selective N-glycan biosynthesis inhibitors targeting metastatic triple-negative breast cancer. The research employs structure-guided medicinal chemistry to optimize DPAGT1 (dolichyl-phosphate N-acetylglucosaminephosphotransferase 1) inhibitors, the first committed enzyme in N-glycan biosynthesis. The project...
- Federal Grant Award Summary The National Cancer Institute (NCI) awarded Natsar Pharmaceuticals, Inc. a $1.63 million Project Grant under the Cancer Treatment Research program (CFDA 93.395) on September 22, 2025, for the development of RK-33, a small molecule inhibitor targeting DDX3 (DEAD-box helicase 3) as a therapeutic candidate for triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). The grant supports drug development activities through August 31, 2027, advancing a rationally designed compound that has...
- The National Cancer Institute awarded Vanderbilt University Medical Center $400,313 on September 1, 2026, under the Cancer Treatment Research program (CFDA 93.395) to evaluate the AR antagonist darolutamide combined with standard-of-care therapy in triple-negative breast cancer patients, specifically those with the luminal androgen receptor subtype characterized by greater than 80 percent AR positivity by immunohistochemistry. The project addresses a significant clinical gap: the LAR subtype,...
- Federal Grant Award Summary The National Cancer Institute awarded The Institute For Cancer Research a $186,000 Project Grant under the Cancer Treatment Research program (CFDA 93.395) on June 23, 2025, with a completion date of May 31, 2027. The award supports pilot and feasibility studies for NN-01-195, a novel tumor-targeted Aurora-A kinase (AURKA) inhibitor developed through a drug conjugate approach. The research involves preclinical evaluation of this chimeric compound, which fuses an...
- The National Cancer Institute awarded Emory University $602,847 on July 1, 2026, under the Cancer Treatment Research program (CFDA 93.395) to investigate the N-glycan modification pathway as a therapeutic target for triple-negative breast cancer, particularly in BRCA1-deficient patients. The project examines the role of MAN1C1, a glycosyl hydrolase, in breast cancer progression, immune evasion, and therapeutic resistance. The research addresses a critical gap: approximately 50–70 percent of...
- The National Cancer Institute awarded $668,878 to the University of Texas at Austin on April 3, 2026, under the Cancer Treatment Research program (CFDA 93.395) to develop novel antibody-drug conjugates targeting CD44 variant 9 for advanced and treatment-resistant breast cancer. The research addresses the clinical need for new therapeutic options for patients with triple-negative and heavily treated hormone receptor-positive metastatic breast cancer who have relapsed or progressed after current...
- The National Institutes of Health National Cancer Institute awarded Vanderbilt University Medical Center $695,884 on June 23, 2026, under the Cancer Treatment Research program (CFDA 93.395) to investigate selective loss of HLA gene products in triple-negative breast cancer immunobiology. The research examines how tumor cells evade immune checkpoint inhibition through downregulation or deletion of MHC-I (major histocompatibility complex I) expression. Preliminary data from the recipient's...
- The National Cancer Institute awarded Seak Therapeutics, LLC $399,981 on September 19, 2025, under the Cancer Treatment Research program (CFDA 93.395) to develop SEAK193, a potent antimitotic agent designed to treat breast cancer brain metastasis. The work encompasses Phase 1 de-risking of SEAK193 as a single agent to assess its viability as a clinical candidate for treating breast cancer brain metastases, as well as brain metastases from lung cancer and melanoma and primary brain tumors...
The National Cancer Institute awarded $400,000 to Toomer Therapeutics, Inc. on September 2, 2026, under the Cancer Treatment Research program (CFDA 93.395) to develop small-molecule inhibitors of the E3 ubiquitin ligase ARIH1 as a targeted therapy for triple-negative breast cancer and other cancers. The project focuses on lead compound optimization, absorption-distribution-metabolism-excretion and pharmacokinetic studies to generate drug-like ARIH1 inhibitors, and preclinical efficacy studies of lead compounds combined with standard chemotherapy using mouse models of triple-negative breast cancer. The recipient has identified hit compounds and derivatives that inhibit ARIH1 ubiquitination in vitro, suppress cancer stemness, and increase chemotherapy sensitivity. The work is supported by data showing elevated ARIH1 levels in triple-negative breast cancer tissue correlate with reduced relapse-free and overall survival, and that ARIH1 silencing blocks epithelial-mesenchymal transition, cancer stemness, and tumor progression in preclinical models. This is a Small Business Technology Transfer Phase I grant. The award obligates $400,000 with a period of performance through August 31, 2027. Work is performed in Charleston, South Carolina.
