The University of Florida (UF) Division of Sponsored Research received a $683,625 federal Project Grant (R34MH135768) from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Trans-NIH Research Support program (CFDA 93.310) to develop and prototype an artificial intelligence (AI)-based clinical decision support tool to identify women at risk of HIV and in need of HIV testing and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) services.
The project aims to: 1) develop an HIV risk prediction model tailored specifically for women using electronic health record data, community-level factors, and natural language processing; 2) design and prototype a women-specific HIV risk prediction clinical decision support tool through a user-centered approach; and 3) assess the feasibility, acceptability, and usability of the tool in a simulated electronic health record environment. This innovative research aims to address the challenge of identifying women at risk of HIV and promote uptake of critical HIV prevention services. The project will run from July 2024 to June 2027 and provide valuable insights to inform a future real-world clinical trial on the efficacy of the women-specific HIV risk prediction tool.
