The Department of Education Institute of Education Sciences awarded a $1,381,350 project grant to The Urban Institute under the Education Research, Development and Dissemination federal grant program (CFDA 84.305) to conduct a lottery-based efficacy study of the District of Columbia Public Prekindergarten Program from September 1, 2021 through August 31, 2023. The Urban Institute will leverage random variation in pre-K enrollment generated through a deferred acceptance lottery method akin to a randomized controlled trial to estimate the complier average causal effect of pre-K participation on child outcomes through the end of third grade, using child assessments and linked administrative data.
