The Beckman Research Institute of the City of Hope was awarded a $240,924 Project Grant from the National Cancer Institute's Cancer Research Manpower (CFDA 93.398) program. The grant, titled the "Cancer Aging and Metabolism Research Experience Program (CAMP)", will provide a 10-week summer research experience for 20 undergraduate students annually, focused on cancer, aging, and metabolism research. The program will match students with 30 experienced mentors at the Beckman Research Institute to conduct hands-on laboratory research, as well as provide training in responsible conduct of research and rigor and reproducibility. In addition, the grant includes a school-year component that reserves 5 spots annually for motivated STEM students from the nearby California State University, Dominguez Hills, a minority-serving institution. The sub-award to the Dominguez Hills Foundation will support recruiting, mentoring, and continuing research opportunities for these students after the summer program. This grant aims to develop a diverse pipeline of future cancer researchers through high-quality research training and community engagement.
