This Project Grant award from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) under the Cancer Treatment Research program (CFDA 93.395) will support the activities of Dr. Alex Herrera as a Research Specialist (Clinician Scientist) to promote and support NCI-sponsored Clinical Trials Network (CTN) research both nationally and at the City of Hope Comprehensive Cancer Center (COHCCC).
Through this $208,103 award over 5 years from September 1, 2024 to August 31, 2029, Dr. Herrera will: (1) build specialized clinical research infrastructure to manage NCI-CTN trials and grow a multidisciplinary NCTN leadership team at COHCCC; (2) lead expansion and integration of COHCCC's clinical research enterprise to increase enrollment in NCTN/ETCTN trials; and (3) enhance diversity of participants in COHCCC's clinical research, particularly for NCTN/ETCTN trials. The award will also support Dr. Herrera's efforts to set the national research agenda for lymphoma clinical trials, serve as an adolescent/young adult liaison, mentor junior investigators, and conduct practice-changing lymphoma research within the NCI's clinical trial networks.
