The National Audubon Society, Inc. has been awarded a $298,014 Project Grant from the Bureau of Reclamation's Cooperative Watershed Management Program (CFDA 15.554) to implement the 2024-2029 Lower Gila River Collaborative (LGRC) Strategic Action Plan over a three-year period from January 2025 to December 2027. The project aims to advance restoration of the Lower Gila River sub-watersheds in Maricopa County, Arizona by removing invasive tamarisk, planting native vegetation, creating public access points and trails, encouraging nature-based economic development, and engaging underserved communities. Key activities include expanding outreach, synthesizing existing plans and data, engaging landowners, developing monitoring protocols, and consolidating hydrologic, ecologic, and social data into an online GIS platform. These efforts will align partners to strategically identify and implement critical restoration projects across the sub-watersheds.
