The City of Gallup, New Mexico was awarded a $10,000,000 Project Grant under the Department of the Interior Bureau of Reclamation's Reclamation States Emergency Drought Relief program (CFDA 15.514) to complete well designs, hydrology, engineering, and construction of a new potable water well. This will help offset the 5-7 year delay in completing the Navajo Gallup Water Supply Project and address the City's declining groundwater levels, which have dropped approximately 725 feet over the past 40 years. The new well will provide domestic water supplies to the Navajo Nation, McKinley County, and the City of Gallup communities that currently lack reliable access to water. The project aligns with the City of Gallup's 2013 Water Conservation Plan and Drought Contingency Plan, and is expected to be completed by March 31, 2027.
