The Valley Soil And Water Conservation District, doing business as Valley SWCD, was awarded a $198,220 project grant from the Department of the Interior Bureau of Reclamation on May 19, 2023 under the Cooperative Watershed Management Program (CFDA 15.554). The purpose of the grant is to establish the North Fork Payette River Watershed Coalition to address water quality issues, including nutrient loading and harmful algae blooms, in the North Fork Payette River watershed in west-central Idaho. The coalition will coordinate a diverse set of stakeholders, including public land and resource managers, municipalities, utilities, irrigators, recreationists, and private developers, to develop a watershed restoration plan for the North Fork Payette River. Through this project, Valley SWCD will provide natural resource planning, water quality monitoring and improvement, riparian habitat restoration, and stakeholder engagement services to address the critical water quality challenges facing the North Fork Payette River watershed.
