This federal Project Grant award from the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) under the Child Health and Human Development Extramural Research program (CFDA 93.865) provides $470,351 to the University of Southern California to explore barriers and facilitators for school representatives' participation in Child Death Review (CDR) team meetings for adolescent suicide mortality prevention.
The goal of this exploratory sequential mixed methods study is to (1) identify facilitators and barriers to school representatives' CDR participation, (2) explore school attorneys' perspectives on CDR participation, and (3) describe school representatives' experiences, concerns, and recommendations for engaging them in CDR meetings. The study will involve semi-structured interviews with school representatives and attorneys, as well as a web-based survey of school representatives. The findings are expected to inform policy and practice interventions to increase school participation in CDR reviews, which is a critical gap for improving identification of modifiable risk factors for adolescent suicide mortality. A sub-award of $X has been provided to Case Western Reserve University to support this research.
