This Project Grant award from the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (CFDA 93.865 - Child Health and Human Development Extramural Research) is providing $393,142 to the University of Washington to explore synergies in the pharmacy-based delivery of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and contraception for adolescent girls and young women in Kenya.
The key objectives are to: 1) Use group-based trajectory modeling to identify patterns in family planning use associated with PrEP outcomes among a cohort of 1,900 young women, and characterize the sociodemographic, behavioral, and psychosocial factors driving these patterns; and 2) Apply qualitative and human-centered design methods to contextualize the synergies between pharmacy-based family planning and PrEP use, and inform testable implementation strategies for integrated service delivery. This work aims to improve access to integrated family planning and HIV prevention services for adolescent girls and young women through pharmacy-based models.
