Project Grant R21AI189301
- The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) awarded a $684,627 Project Grant under the Allergy and Infectious Diseases Research Program (CFDA 93.855) to Georgia State University Research Foundation Inc. to investigate the interactions between the sexually transmitted pathogen Neisseria gonorrhoeae (the cause of gonorrhea) and host cell glycans. The research aims to understand how the pathogen's conserved outer membrane transport proteins bind to human glycans, potentially...
- The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) awarded a $212,169 Project Grant under the Allergy and Infectious Diseases Research Federal Grant Program (CFDA 93.855) to The Johns Hopkins University to advance mentorship at the Johns Hopkins Integrated Center for Combating Antimicrobial Resistant Bacteria. The project summary indicates the principal investigator has conducted pivotal research on antimicrobial resistant infections, leading to clinical guidelines, and has...
- The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) awarded a $822,015 Project Grant titled "NOVEL STATISTICAL METHODS FOR CONFOUNDED AND INCOMPLETE NETWORK DATA" to the University of Pennsylvania. This grant, provided under the NIAID's Allergy and Infectious Diseases Research program (CFDA 93.855), will fund the development of new statistical methodologies to address challenges posed by missing data, confounding, and complex social network structures in studies of public...
- The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), under the Allergy and Infectious Diseases Research Federal Grant Program (CFDA 93.855), awarded a $201,528 Project Grant to the Regents of the University of Minnesota to develop a cost-effective diagnostic algorithm using point-of-care tests to guide antimicrobial management for patients with solid tumors receiving chemotherapy in Uganda. The project aims to understand the association between HIV status and the microbiology of...
- This federal Project Grant award of $243,750 from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) under the Allergy and Infectious Diseases Research program (CFDA 93.855) supports research to investigate how the bacterium Gardnerella promotes the pathogenesis of Neisseria gonorrhoeae, the causative agent of the sexually-transmitted infection gonorrhea. The key objectives are to determine the mechanisms by which Gardnerella virulence factors, including the cytolytic toxin...
- This Project Grant award from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), under the Allergy and Infectious Diseases Research (CFDA 93.855) federal grant program, provides funding for research on Neisseria gonorrhoeae, the bacterial pathogen responsible for the sexually transmitted infection gonorrhea. The research focuses on understanding how the pathogen adapts to overcome nutritional immunity, specifically the sequestration of essential iron by the host. The key...
- The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) awarded a $4,362,124 Cooperative Agreement on August 12, 2025 under the Allergy and Infectious Diseases Research Federal Grant Program (CFDA 93.855) to The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine, Inc. The purpose of this award is to advance the development of a promising vaccine candidate against gonorrhea through preclinical testing and into clinical trials. The key products and services to be...
- The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) awarded The Johns Hopkins University a 5-year, $1,546,730 Project Grant under the Allergy and Infectious Diseases Research Federal Grant Program (CFDA 93.855) to support the continuation and expansion of the Johns Hopkins HIV Implementation Science Hub (Hopkins Hub). The key objectives of this award are to: 1) enhance the technical rigor of implementation science research and build capacity among investigators focused on ending...
- The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) awarded a $401,191 Project Grant to The Johns Hopkins University on June 11, 2025 under the Allergy and Infectious Diseases Research Federal Grant Program (CFDA 93.855). The project aims to characterize the neonatal nasal microbiome following a parent-to-child nasal microbiota transplant, with the goal of developing interventions to prevent life-threatening Staphylococcus aureus infections in neonates. The research focuses on...
- This Project Grant award of $1,553,810 from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) under the Allergy and Infectious Diseases Research program (CFDA 93.855) supports research to evaluate a genomic surveillance approach for monitoring artemisinin resistance in Plasmodium falciparum malaria in Africa. The project aims to identify genetic mutations and altered biological functions associated with artemisinin resistance, which is a critical concern as resistance emerges...
The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) awarded a $243,235 Project Grant under the Allergy and Infectious Diseases Research program (CFDA 93.855) to The Johns Hopkins University. This grant will fund the development and validation of direct-from-sample whole genome sequencing methods for Neisseria gonorrhoeae (NG) to support expanded genomic surveillance of NG and other bacterial sexually transmitted infections in populations with high HIV burdens in Eastern and Southern Africa. The project aims to generate NG whole genome sequencing data from approximately 250 NG-positive penile and vaginal swab samples collected through population-based STI trials nested within the Rakai Community Cohort Study in Uganda. This data will provide insights into NG transmission dynamics, the presence of drug-resistant NG lineages, and the overlap between NG and HIV transmission networks to inform future expansion of genomic surveillance efforts in low-resource regions with high HIV and STI burdens. The project will be conducted from August 2025 through July 2027.
