The University of Texas at Austin was awarded a $412,909 Project Grant from the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (CFDA 93.865 - Child Health and Human Development Extramural Research) to conduct research focused on racial/ethnic disparities in early family member deaths and the impact on young adult life course trajectories. The project will employ a mixed-methods research design, combining quantitative analyses of national longitudinal data with qualitative and biosignal data from a local laboratory-based sample, to elucidate the physiological, cognitive, psychological, and social mechanisms underlying the linkages between exposure to family deaths in early life and subsequent socioeconomic attainment and family-building challenges in young adulthood. The research aims to identify key sources of resilience that can be leveraged for interventions to support young people facing these risks and promote more stable transitions into adulthood. The award period runs from September 1, 2024 to May 31, 2028.
