The Food and Drug Administration's Center for Veterinary Medicine awarded $190,296 to Novaeel Inc. on September 20, 2025, under the Food and Drug Administration Research program (CFDA 93.103) to conduct an environmental assessment of Estraqua (estradiol type A medicated article) for American eels in recirculating aquaculture systems.
The project evaluates environmental risk factors associated with INAD 012-884, a 0.1% estradiol medicated article administered in feed at 5 parts per million to American eels (Anguilla rostrata) in a recirculating aquaculture system. The assessment is required to complete the environmental assessment technical section of the new animal drug application and will provide the basis for FDA CVM to issue either a finding of no significant effects or an environmental impact statement.
Work is performed in Massachusetts and runs through August 31, 2027. The award is structured as a project grant.
