This $505,617 federal Project Grant award from the National Institute on Drug Abuse (CFDA 93.279 - Drug Use and Addiction Research Programs) supports the development of novel data analysis methods to inform the design of Just-In-Time Adaptive Interventions (JITAIs) for substance use disorders. The primary objectives are to: 1) develop new analytical approaches that leverage Micro-Randomized Trial data to construct optimal JITAIs focused on distal outcomes, 2) create methods that account for intervention engagement when estimating the optimal JITAI, and 3) enable the identification of important tailoring variables. These new methodologies will be applied to data from three existing JITAI studies and disseminated to substance use disorder researchers through open-source statistical software. The successful completion of this work is expected to facilitate the development of more effective, interpretable, and generalizable JITAIs for preventing and treating substance use disorders.
