This $800,389 Project Grant award from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), under the Allergy and Infectious Diseases Research program (CFDA 93.855), will fund research to evaluate the safety and therapeutic potential of a novel strategy towards a cure for HIV infection. The key products or services to be delivered include: Comprehensive testing of the effects of IL-15/IL-15RA-FC therapy combined with TGF-beta blockade (Galunisertib) on different T and NK cell subsets during chronic SIV infection under antiretroviral therapy (ART) (Aim 1). Investigation of how the changes in T and NK cell function affect viral reservoirs under ART and viral control after ART interruption (Aim 2). Combination of the optimal cytokine therapy with vaccination to further enhance the magnitude and breadth of SIV-specific CD8 T cell responses, with the goal of improving the therapeutic benefit (Aim 3). The award will be performed by Emory University, a private research university in Atlanta, Georgia, over the period of June 4, 2025 to May 31, 2030.
