This three-year, $978,978 project grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities under the Promotion of the Humanities Division of Preservation and Access program (CFDA 45.149) will support the University of Wisconsin-Madison in improving access to important historical collections held by the American Institute of the History of Pharmacy and UW-Madison School of Pharmacy. The key products include creating a comprehensive finding aid for the 1,000 cubic foot Kremers Reference Files collection, beginning to inventory significant uncataloged ephemera and artifact collections documenting the material culture of pharmacy, and developing an online digital library with approximately 1,000 artifacts and 1,000 pieces of ephemera from the collections. This funding will enhance researchers' ability to discover, use, and access these collections intersecting the humanities and health sciences to provide historical context for contemporary issues in pharmacy, pharmaceuticals, drugs, and public health.
