Rural self-help housing technical assist

NeighborWorks Great Falls received a $450,000 Project Grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Housing Service under the Rural Self-Help Housing Technical Assistance program (CFDA 10.420), awarded July 9, 2026, with completion scheduled for April 9, 2027. The grant supports the delivery of comprehensive technical assistance services to very low- and low-income individuals and families in rural Montana who are constructing their own homes through the self-help method. Services include construction expertise, homebuyer education, financial counseling, and community outreach designed to guide participants through the home building process while enabling families to reduce housing costs through significant labor contributions and sweat equity.

This award represents the third Rural Self-Help Housing Technical Assistance grant received by NeighborWorks Great Falls since March 2021, with total funding of approximately $2.04 million across the three awards. The organization's demonstrated expertise in providing construction guidance and technical support for self-help home building initiatives, combined with its established track record serving rural Montana's low-income populations, positions it as a qualified nonprofit partner for expanding affordable homeownership opportunities in the region.
