Rural self-help housing technical assist

The Universal Housing Development Corporation was awarded a $702,000 Project Grant from the US Department of Agriculture Rural Housing Service under the Rural Self-Help Housing Technical Assistance program. The grant will support Universal Housing's provision of technical assistance services to help very low- and low-income individuals and families in Arkansas build homes using the self-help method through June 2024. As the name suggests, the Rural Self-Help Housing Technical Assistance program aims to provide financial assistance to nonprofits and public agencies that will help low-income residents in rural areas construct owner-occupied housing through a self-help building process where future homeowners work together on construction. This award will allow Universal Housing to deliver services that are crucial to enabling affordable homeownership for underserved rural residents through this unique self-help model.
