The National Park Service's Outdoor Recreation Acquisition, Development and Planning program (CFDA 15.916) awarded a $300,000 Project Grant to the WV Department of Economic Development, doing business as the West Virginia Development Office. The funding will be used by the grantee to construct three new pickleball courts, including parking and access, at the James Hite Park in Kearneysville, West Virginia. This project aims to meet the growing community demand for pickleball facilities, particularly among the county's senior population. The completion date for the project is September 30, 2026. As a sub-recipient, the Jefferson County Parks Recreation Commission will oversee the construction and operation of the new pickleball courts.
