The U.S. Department of the Interior's National Park Service awarded a $500,000 Project Grant under the Outdoor Recreation Acquisition, Development and Planning program (CFDA 15.916) to the West Virginia Department of Economic Development on behalf of the City of Charleston. The funding will be used to replace the deteriorating grass ballfield at North Charleston Park with a 121,968 sq.ft. synthetic turf multi-use surface. The project scope includes excavation, drainage pipes, concrete perimeter curb, aggregate base, and drainage work. This will transform the field into a year-round facility supporting youth sports leagues and community recreational activities for residents across the Charleston area. The project aims to enhance recreational access and amenities in an economically distressed community with higher minority populations.
