ARIZONA STATE PARKS WILL SUBGRANT THE LWCF AWARD TO THE CITY OF SHOW LOW TO CONSTRUCT 8 NEW PICKLEBALL COURTS AT ITS CAMPUS CITY PARK. THE PROPOSED PROJECT WAS DEVELOPED WITH INPUT FROM THE PUBLIC TO INCLUDE 4 NEW PICKLEBALL COURTS IN ADDITION TO THE CURRENT 4 COURTS. THESE EIGHT COURTS, CONSTRUCTED IN 2019, NOW ARE ADEQUATE FOR THE INCREASED POPULATION OF SHOW LOW AND THE POPULARITY OF THE SPORT. NOT ONLY WILL THE COURTS PROVIDE ADDITIONAL FACILITIES FOR THE PUBLIC, BUT WILL BE USED BY THE LOCAL SCHOOL AS PART OF THEIR PHYSICAL EDUCATION PROGRAM. ADDITIONAL FUNDING WILL BE USED FOR TWO RAMADAS WITH PICNIC TABLES AND AN ADA WALKWAY. THIS FACILITY WILL AID IN PROMOTING OUTDOOR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AND SOCIAL CONNECTIVENESS FOR ALL AGES AND ABILITIES. THE NEED FOR THIS ACTIVITY WAS NEVER MORE EVIDENT THAN DURING THE COVID PANDEMIC WHERE OUTDOOR RECREATIONS AREAS WITH THE ABILITY TO SOCIALLY DISTANCE WAS NEEDED FOR BOTH THE PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH OF THE COMMUNITY. ONCE COMPLETED, THE PARK WILL BE ACCESSIBLE, INCLUDE LIGHTING MAKING THE AREA SAFER AFTER HOURS AND PROVIDE AN AREA FOR THE PUBLIC TO SAFETY RECREATE IN THE EVENT OF FUTURE PANDEMICS.
