The Department of the Interior National Park Service National Office awarded a $884,458.96 Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) Project Grant to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. The grant will be subgranted to Cass County to renovate facilities and construct new recreation amenities at the Dr. Lawless International Dark Sky Park. Key project components include:
Renovating the Schug Pavilion with accessible restrooms and the entry gatehouse
Paving the existing entrance drive and parking lot
Designating three barrier-free and one universally accessible parking spaces
This project will benefit the community and area visitors by improving accessibility and recreational opportunities within the park. The grant award period is from July 1, 2023 to September 30, 2026.
