The California Department of Parks and Recreation will use a $4.8 million Project Grant award from the Department of the Interior National Park Service to enhance Newcastle Park in Arcadia, California. Funded through the Outdoor Recreation Acquisition, Development and Planning program (CFDA 15.916), the award will support renovating existing tennis, handball, and volleyball courts; installing new lighting, landscaping, and site amenities; replacing restrooms and playground equipment; and constructing a new pedestrian walkpath. The City of Arcadia will receive a subaward to deliver some of these park improvement services aligned with the grant objectives of developing outdoor recreation areas and facilities included in California's Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan. The renovated park is expected to benefit public health by promoting physical activity and social interaction among older adults and neighboring residents, as well as provide new recreational opportunities for youth through age-appropriate play areas. All work is scheduled for completion by June 2026.
