The West Virginia Department of Economic Development received a $199,430 project grant award from the Department of the Interior National Park Service National Office to rehabilitate Hawkins Park courts in Wardensville, West Virginia. Funded through the Outdoor Recreation Acquisition, Development and Planning program, the project will replace tennis court surfacing and fencing, reconfigure for tennis and pickleball use, and resurface an existing basketball court. Set for completion by December 2025, this project aims to improve and expand outdoor recreation facilities as prioritized in West Virginia's Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan.
