The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will construct 1,500 feet of an 8-foot-wide natural surface equestrian, hiking and cycling trail along an abandoned railroad embankment in Lincoln, Nebraska under a $621,000 Project Grant from the National Park Service's Outdoor Recreation Acquisition, Development and Planning program (CFDA 15.916). The trail construction will include retrofitting an existing steel truss railroad bridge over Salt Creek to include a durable surfaced deck and safety railings. This funding will support the development of outdoor recreation areas and facilities that are included in the State of Nebraska's Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan by providing a multi-use trail and upgraded bridge to benefit cyclists, hikers, runners and equestrians in Lincoln. The project is scheduled for completion by September 30, 2025.
