The South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation, and Tourism will use a $1 million Project Grant award from the Department of the Interior National Park Service to acquire 170 acres of land along the Middle Saluda River and provide additional public access to hiking trails in the Mountain Bridge Wilderness Area and Jones Gap State Park. Funded through the Outdoor Recreation Acquisition, Development and Planning program (CFDA 15.916), the award will support the purchase of property ascending from scenic river falls through hardwood forests to connect an existing trailhead network. The new land will be open to year-round hiking and provide additional public access points for residents of Greenville County to access over 14,000 acres of popular trails. The award period is from October 1, 2022 to September 30, 2024.
