Description

Chinese american exclusion in washington statethe chinese exclusion act was passed in 1882 and was the first federal law to specifically exclude an entire ethnic group from immigrating to the US, but despite this, washington s chinese american community showed resilience and perseverance unfortunately, the history of the exclusion ERA from 1882 1963 has largely gone undocumented, and many of the significant sites related to that history are already gone this project will include a survey of existing sites related to the chinese american exclusion ERA, development of a historic context, and result in at least one national register nomination, as well as serving as a foundation for future nominations of chinese american related properties the grantee will match this project with 12,500
