The Department of Health and Human Services Centers for Disease Control and Prevention awarded $125,000 to Newton Community Partnership, Inc., on July 1, 2026, under the Drug-Free Communities Support Program Grants (CFDA 93.276). The Newton County Drug Free Community Coalition, managed by NCP since 2002, brings together 12 community sectors including schools, colleges, community agencies, healthcare providers, financial institutions, faith organizations, and youth and adult volunteers. The coalition will strengthen its collaborative plan by building parent and policy-maker engagement to ensure future sustainability. Work is structured around seven strategies for community change: providing education and information; building skills for positive health choices; providing support to reduce risk and increase protective factors; changing consequences to incentivize positive practices; changing the community's physical design; and educating stakeholders about policies affecting youth access to substances. Performance runs from July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2031, with all work performed in Georgia. The Drug-Free Communities Support Program establishes and strengthens collaborations supporting community coalitions working to prevent and reduce youth substance use. Community coalitions must demonstrate at least six months of prior collaborative work on substance abuse reduction and provide 100–150 percent cash or in-kind match.
