THE OBJECTIVES FOR THE GRANT ARE TO REDUCE PRESCRIPTION DRUG USE OF RURAL LINN COUNTY 6-12TH GRADE STUDENTS AND INCREASE ADULT PERCEPTION OF RISK OF THE MISUSE OF PRESCRIPTION DRUGS. STRATEGIES INCLUDE; INFORMATION DISSEMINATION, COMMUNITY EVENTS/ TRAINING, IMPLEMENTATION OF GEN RX PROGRAM IN SCHOOLS, COALITION TRAINING, AND INSTALLATION OF A DRUG DROP BOX IN SPRINGVILLE. ALSO, RECOGNITION OF BUSINESSES, PROGRAM VOLUNTEERS AND PARTNERS THAT SUPPORT PRESCRIPTION DRUG PREVENTION, INSTALLATION OF SIGNAGE IN PHARMACIES/MEDICAL OFFICES, REVIEWING SCHOOL POLICIES, DEVELOPING RESOURCE PACKETS AND POLICIES FOR MEDICAL OFFICES/PHARMACIES.THE PURPOSE OF THIS PROJECT WILL PROVIDE SERVICES TO MOUNT VERNON, LISBON AND SPRINGVILLE IN RURAL LINN COUNTY, IOWA. THE THREE COMMUNITIES THE CARA GRANT WILL SERVE A COMBINED TOTAL POPULATION OF 8,036 PEOPLE. MOUNT VERNON, THE LARGEST COMMUNITY, HAS A POPULATION OF 4,451 AND IS HOME TO CORNELL COLLEGE, A PRIVATE LIBERAL ARTS COLLEGE WITH APPROXIMATELY 1,000 STUDENTS FROM 42 STATES AND 17 FOREGIN COUNTRIES. LISBON HAS A POPULATION OF 2,493 AND SPRINGVILLE HAS A POPULATION OF 1,092. EACH TOWN CONTAINS ITS OWN SCHOOL DISTRICT, WITH POPULATIONS THAT GO BEYOND CITY LIMITS DUE TO OPEN ENROLLMENT. THE THREE COMMUNITIES HAVE LIMITED RESOURCES ADDRESSING PRESCRIPTION DRUG MISUSE. THE PROJECT'S OBJECTIVES ARE: OBJECTIVE 1: BY 6/30/2022 REDUCE PRESCRIPTION DRUG USE (30 DAY USE AMONG YOUTH) OF RURAL LINN COUNTY 6TH-12TH GRADE STUDENTS BY 2% AS MEASURED BY THE IOWA YOUTH SURVEY (IYS). OBJECTIVE 1: BY 6/30/2022 INCREASE ADULT PERCEPTION OF RISK OF THE MISUSE OF PRESCRIPTION DRUGS BY 3% AS MEASURED BY THE ANNUAL COMMUNITY SURVEY.
