The Central Council of Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska received a $148,534 Project Grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) under the Native American and Native Hawaiian Library Services (NANH-L) program (CFDA 45.311). This two-year award will enable the Tribes to offer training, education, and classes to their community to promote cultural arts, including workshops on traditional weaving and carving as well as classes on contemporary Indigenous art forms. The project aims to strengthen the arts and cultural education sectors, provide employment and training opportunities for tribal citizens, and enhance the socioeconomic resilience of the Tribes' communities by focusing on the revitalization of Indigenous arts and cultural education. This effort is intended to create pathways out of poverty, bring elders and youth together, celebrate and preserve unique cultural identities, and contribute to a broader economic recovery and cultural renaissance in the wake of the pandemic's impacts.
