Description

This project proposes to diversify farmers' options by growing a commercially valuable species of red algae (wildemania amplissima) using the same gear farmers use to grow sugar kelp but in a different season. Wildemania amplissima is a type of nori native to maine and new hampshire waters that is suitable for longline cultivation. Nori is not considered kelp but refers to red algae often used to make sushi rolls, a multi-billion-dollar industry in asia.
