About this award

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration awarded $1.5 million under the Pacific Fisheries Data Program to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game for the Bering Sea Crab Research XXI project. The project will support research, data collection, and distribution activities through June 2023 to provide fishery managers with information needed to sustainably manage commercial crab fisheries in the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands consistent with state and federal regulations. As the primary recipient, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game will perform western Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands crab research through staff based in Kodiak and Dutch Harbor. The data and analyses generated will aid the North Pacific Fishery Management Council and Alaska Board of Fisheries in setting policies and catch limits that support both conservation and fishery participation as outlined in the Magnuson-Stevens Act.
