About this award
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration awarded a $129,257 Project Grant to the California Academy of Sciences under the Marine Mammal Data Program (CFDA 11.439) to enhance marine mammal stranding response from May 1, 2021 to October 31, 2022. The grant will support collaboration with an established citizen science network to link iNaturalist observations to the marine mammal stranding network, allowing for improved data collection on stranded marine mammals in California waters. By connecting citizen reports on iNaturalist to the state's stranding response system, this project aims to enhance NOAA's nondiscretionary funding efforts under the Marine Mammal Data Program to collect and analyze information on marine mammals interacting with state fisheries and marine resources.
