About this award
The National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA) was awarded a $296,250 Project Grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) under the Museums for America (MFA) federal grant program to undertake comprehensive diversity, equity, access, and inclusion (DEAI) training for its board and staff. Facilitated by an outside consultant over the Sep 1, 2021 to May 31, 2023 period of performance, NMWA's board and staff will participate in a series of workshops and coaching sessions aimed at implementing deeper organizational change through the examination of current operations, programming, processes, and relationships. The goal is to develop and implement a sustainable, long-term DEAI strategy and shift the organizational culture. By increasing staff and leadership's capacity to address DEAI issues, the project activities ultimately will lead to the development of exhibitions and educational programming that are more relevant to the museum's community.
